ILOILO – More than 300 personnel from the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) will augment the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) in maintaining peace and order during the Dinagyang Festival 2024.
Police Major Rolando Araño, IPPO spokesperson, said the 308 personnel would be deployed to Iloilo City on Jan. 23 and would remain until the two-day highlights of the Dinagyang Festival on Jan. 27 and 28.
Araño urged the public to be vigilant against petty crimes, avoid wearing or bringing valuables, and secure their houses before leaving for the festival to prevent burglary.
The ICPO requested an augmentation force of over 1,000 police personnel from the Police Regional Office 6 to bolster security measures for the upcoming Dinagyang Festival.
Lieutenant Colonel Rene Obregon Jr., chief of the ICPO Operations Management Unit, said the additional personnel would assist in various roles during the festival, including monitoring border control, overseeing judging areas for the Kasadyahan sa Kabanwahanan and Ati-Tribes Competition, managing crowd control, and ensuring the smooth running of the food festival and other festival activities.
In addition to requesting more cops, the ICPO is also coordinating with force multipliers. This coordination aims to further strengthen security preparations to achieve the goal of zero major incidents during the Dinagyang Festival celebration, Obregon added.
