Hundreds of jobs up for grabs in Antique’s year-end career fair

SAN JOSE, Antique – The Antique provincial government and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will hold a job fair at Robinsons Mall Antique next week.

Scheduled on Dec. 12, the fair will offer local and international jobs .

Myra Pe of the Provincial Employment Service Office (PESO), said it will be the second job fair in Antique this year. The first one was held on Feb. 28.

“Every year we have two job fairs being held in the province,” said Pe.

Based on their partial list, 13 local firms and 10 overseas/manpower agencies are joining the event.

“The Semirara Mining Corporation will be looking for chemist, chemical engineer, mechanical engineer and other workers,” she said.

Semirara Mining Corporation, which operates a coal mine in Semirara, Caluya, would be hiring more than 100 personnel, including driver and heavy equipment operators.

Teletech will also hire around 300 call center agents for its business process outsourcing in Iloilo City.

Bright Star Placement Corporation, a manpower agency, will be looking for factory workers for Taiwan and domestic helpers for Singapore, Malaysia and Qatar.

Another manpower agency, Placewell International Services Corporation, will be hiring professionals like teachers for Myanmar and engineers for Saudi Arabia, as well as skilled workers for other foreign countries like Japan, Oman and United Arab Emirates.

“The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) will be there during the job fair to assist applicants who will still be needing skills training,” Pe said.

TESDA Antique provincial office will assist interested Antiqueños to apply for certain jobs but are still being required to undergo skills training, for them to acquire the National Competency Certificate that is usually being asked for by the recruitment agencies as assurance they meet the qualification standard.

Pe said the applicants would just need to bring their resume for submission to the agencies during the job fair.

The PESO manager could not yet give the exact number of those who will be hired-on-the-spot. The office, however, is inviting interested individuals considering that there are numerous companies that will be joining the job fair. (With PNA/PN)
