BACOLOD City – Chief Inspector Jake Barila, the head of the Hinigaran police station who was injured after responding to an indiscriminate firing alert last week, received an award.
Chief Superintendent Cesar Hawthorne Binag, director of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6), presented the medal to Barila while the latter was confined at the Dr. Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital in this city on Saturday.
PRO-6 in a statement said Barila was “a hero whose bravery and devotion to duty is worthy of emulation.”
Barila led the team that responded to Victoria de Ysasi’s residence in Barangay Palayog in Hinigaran town.
De Ysasi reported to the police her son, Dabi, who acted violently while indiscriminately firing a .45-caliber pistol.
She also said her son mauled her for not giving him money.
Barila tried to convince Dabi to surrender but the latter fired at him on the left thigh.
Barila fired back, hitting Dabi on the chest, police said.
Dabi, a newly-identified drug personality, was brought to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Hospital for treatment. (With PNA/PN)
