ILOILO – A man died after his wife repeatedly struck him on the head with a dumbbell while he was lying on the sofa at their home in Saintsville Subdivision, Barangay Poblacion Ilawod, Zarraga town around 11 a.m. yesterday, October 13.
Zarraga police identified the victim as alias “Nardo”, an engineer working in Saudi Arabia while the suspect was alias “Maria”, 60, a retired teacher.
According to Executive Master Sergeant Jeffrey Sirue of the Zarraga Municipal Police Station, Maria struck her husband multiple times with a dumbbell weighing approximately 1.5 kilograms. Nardo had just returned home from abroad four months ago.
Maria claimed that she suffers from bipolar disorder and heard voices that compelled her to commit the crime.
Police reported that there was no argument between the couple prior to the incident and no loud noises were heard by neighbors in the area.
The wife is now under police custody while the victim’s remains were at the morgue of the Iloilo Provincial Hospital in Pototan town./PN
