ILOILO City – The 35-year-old man tagged in killing his father last Friday surrendered to the police in Lambunao, Iloilo.
Jose Jimmy Lastimoso admitted shooting his 57-year-old father Jimmy but said he did not mean to kill him.
Lastimoso also denied having a heated argument with his father prior to the shooting.
“We are about to sleep when my father told me that he will be sleeping at my grandmother’s house,” he said. “Abi ko kalakat na sia kag sang magpalupok ako aksidente nga naigo sia.”
Jimmy died of a gunshot wound on the chest, a police report showed.
“Hindi ko hungod nga patyon sia,” stressed Lastimoso, who turned himself in to the police around 9 p.m. on Tuesday. He was accompanied by his younger brother Ronnel.
Lastimoso told the cops that after the incident, he went hiding at the house of his parents-in-law in a remote area in Lambunao out of fear that his relatives would kill him.
“I called my brother to accompany me going to the police station to surrender. I regret what I did. I did not mean to kill him (Jimmy). It was an accident,” he said.
According to police investigation, Lastimoso got mad with his father who was drunk when he arrived home around 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 22.
Lambunao police chief Senior Inspector Rene Obregon earlier said a commotion ensued between the two.
They were pacified by a relative but minutes later, a gunfire was heard.
Jimmy was then found lying on the floor with a gunshot wound on the chest while Lastimoso fled.
A parricide case was filed against Lastimoso, Obregon said./PN
