IBAJAY, Aklan – With coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections rising, Mayor Jose Enrique Miraflores ordered the temporary closure of recreation facilities here.

He directed punong barangays to ensure the closure.

The order took effect on June 7.

Ibajay, classified a COVID-19 high-risk area, logged 81 active infections as of June 8. Four residents have so far died of the disease while 96 cases recovered.

The temporary closure of recreation facilities aims to stop COVID-19 transmission.

Miraflores’ Executive Order No. 17 covered public and private beach resorts, pools, bars and tourist spots in the municipality.

Leisure facilities have been established as COVID-19 super spreader venues, said the mayor.

In another executive order, Miraflores prohibited ambulant vendors of non-essential merchandise and collectors and agents of micro-finance establishments from operating, except for vendors of essential goods or merchandise such as fish and meat products, bread and other food items.

The municipal inter-agency task force will continue to monitor the situation and will inform the public when it is safe to reopen leisure and recreation facilities, according to Miraflores.

Meanwhile in Lezo, Aklan,  the Municipal Health Office, Municipal Treasurer’s Office and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office were temporarily closed starting June 7 due to the COVID-19 exposure of employees./PN
