‘Ibibigay ko lahat’: Pia ready to audition for Darna

MISS Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach is ready to fully commit to the “role of a lifetime,” should the opportunity of playing Darna land on her lap.

Wurtzbach’s name has been among the top picks of fans on social media, following the exit of Liza Soberano form the Star Cinema production due to medical reasons.

Nalungkot ako talaga, kasi kaibigan ko na rin si Liza,” Wurtzbach told ABS-CBN News’ MJ Felipe, when asked for her reaction to Soberano’s withdrawal.

Soberano portrayed Wurtzbach in a 2017 “MMK” episode depicting the beauty queen’s life story. The two would go on to work together in numerous ABS-CBN events and programs, including the Sydney stop of the musical variety show “ASAP” in 2018.

“I remember talking to her about the movie ‘Darna,’ while we were doing ‘ASAP’ in Australia, her preparation and how she was really excited about it,” Wurtzbach said.

Sympathizing with Soberano’s situation, she went on: “‘Yung feeling na… Alam mo ‘yung, sa ‘yo na, e, and then may mga things na hindi natin ma-control. I feel bad for her. I also messaged her. I can just imagine what it feels like. I feel really bad for what happened.”

She described the role of Darna as “iconic” and “sought-after” – reasons why she is “very flattered” that she is one of the names being floated by fans as a possible replacement for Soberano.

Kung papalarin na ibibigay sa akin ‘yung role na Darna, tatanggapin ko. I will work hard, I will train, I will attend workshops. Ibibigay ko lahat ng lakas ko. But, of course, it’s ABS-CBN’s decision in the end to see who is the perfect fit to play the role,” she said.

Wurtzbach, whose pageant journey inspired with her third-try triumph in the national competition, is even willing to go through an audition process to play Darna on the big screen.

“Yeah, of course! If I find out that they’re open to have me audition, then I’m going to try. Why not? . . . It’s everybody’s dream. It’s a dream role for me to play a superhero. If it happens, it happens. If not, then that’s also fine,” she said. (ABS-CBN News)
