MANILA — Senate President Franklin Drilon will start September by taking the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.
Drilon yesterday described the challenge, which has gone viral in social media this year, as a “good cause.”
The challenge aims to promote awareness on ALS, or the amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a rare disease that affects nerve cells.
“Ito ay cause na ating susuportahan, lalo na’t marami pa ang ‘di nakakaalam sa sakit na ito at kung ano ang dahilan nito,” he said.
Drilon was nominated by Rep. Niel Tupas Jr. of Iloilo’s 5th District for the challenge.
The Ilonggo senator will have himself filmed while being doused by a bucket of ice water on Sept. 1, Monday, at the Senate.
He did not name those he will nominate.
Aside from Drilon, Tupas nominated another Ilonggo, Supreme Court Associate Justice Francis Jardeleza, and Supreme Court Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno.
Those who will take the challenge must be filmed while having a bucket of ice water poured on their heads. They must also challenge others to do the same.
Those nominated to take the challenge have 24 hours to perform or decline by way of a charitable financial donation.
Other Philippine government officials who have taken the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge include Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, Bureau of Internal Revenue commissioner Kim Henares and Sen. Sonny Angara./PN
