ILOILO City – The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO), under the leadership of Police Colonel Kim P. Legada, has intensified its campaign against illegal drugs to ensure a safe and drug-free Dinagyang Festival.

“We anticipate an increase in drug supply and transactions during the festival, but we are committed to intercepting and conducting operations against those involved in illegal activities,” Legada told Panay News.

Since January, the ICPO has conducted 40 anti-drug operations, resulting in substantial recoveries.

Recent raids yielded 150 grams of suspected shabu in Barangay Bakhaw, Mandurriao district; 300 grams in Jaro district; and 85 grams in Arevalo district.

Over the past three days, authorities seized a total of 600 grams of shabu, adding to approximately three kilos recovered since the beginning of the year.

Legada commended the City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU) for its relentless efforts.

“The CDEU has been crucial in our success, especially as we approach the Dinagyang Festival highlights,” he said.

To balance anti-drug operations and overall security during the festivities, the ICPO has deployed additional personnel.

“Safety and security are our top priorities, and we have augmentations to address any gaps,” Legada said.

The police chief reiterated that the anti-drug campaign remains a top directive, regardless of the festival.

“Our efforts against illegal drugs will not waver, with or without an event. We are steadfast in our mission to protect the city,” Legada emphasized./PN
