ILOILO City — The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) reminded the public — especially students, out-of-school youth and minors – to observe the anti-vandalism ordinance aimed at keeping the city clean.

The ICPO director, Senior Supt. Ruperto Floro, made the appeal after noticing graffiti posted on structures, walls of houses and offices.

“Those caught violating this ordinance will be penalized accordingly,” Floro said.

The ICPO had created a team to oversee to the vandals especially during nighttime.

The police noticed that most violators of said ordinance are minors and gangs who post names of their groups in order to be recognized.

Vandalism is defined as willful acts that damage or deface the property belonging to another person or to the public.

A city ordinance  prohibits the writing, drawing, painting, marking or inscribing on any public property or private property any word, slogan, caricature, drawing, mark or, affixing, posting up or displaying on any public property or private property any advertisement, bill or notice, without the consent of the owner.

Violators shall be penalized through community service.

If the violator is a minor, the ordinance said, the civil liability shall be shouldered by the parents.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development will take charge if the violator is 15 to 18 years old./PN
