ILOILO City – Two successful police operations in this city days leading to the Dinagyang Festival led to the confiscation of more or less 450 grams of suspected shabu worth over P3 million. Five drug-pushing suspects were put behind bars.
The Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit 6, in coordination with Iloilo City Police Station 1 and Iloilo City Police Office-City Drug Enforcement Unit (ICPO-CDEU), apprehended three individuals at approximately 1:10 p.m. on Jan. 20 in the City Proper district’s Zone 3, Barangay Tanza Esperanza.
Suspects “Sitang,” “Inday,” and “Roger” were collared for approximately 170 grams of suspected shabu valued at P1,156,000.
Another primary target of the anti-illegal drug sting, known by the alias “Yong-yong,” managed to evade capture.
On Jan. 19, at approximately 3:50 p.m., the ICPO-CDEU collared two individuals in Barangay Arguelles, Jaro district.
The arrested individuals were identified as alias “Long Hair,” a 34-year-old married male from Barangay Arguelles, and alias “Mike,” a 37-year-old male call center agent from Barangay Balabago, Jaro.
Some 280 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated street value of P1,904,000 were recovered from the suspects.
The apprehended individuals are currently in police custody, pending the filing of charges for violations of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
In response to these operations, Police Regional Office 6 director Brigadier General Sidney N. Villaflor expressed appreciation for the swift action of the Iloilo City police in combating illegal drug activities.
“These operations underscore the commitment of the police to combat illegal drug activities, ensuring the safety and well-being of the community,” he said.
The regional director further appealed for the support of the public in the ongoing efforts of the police to eradicate illegal drugs from the community./PN
