ILOILO City – The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) arrested 229 drug personalities and confiscated P58.1 million worth of shabu in the past five months.
Records from the ICPO reveal that from January to May, a total of 229 drug pushers were apprehended through 167 buy-bust and search warrant operations by various police units. These operations led to the seizure of 8,544 grams of shabu.
The City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU) reported the highest seizure, amounting to P32.9 million, followed by Mandurriao Police Station with P6.6 million and Jaro Police Station with P2.7 million.
Police Colonel Joeresty Coronica, director of the ICPO, attributed the success to the relentless efforts of policemen in combating illegal drugs.
In a recent conference, Coronica instructed his police chiefs to intensify operations, urging them to revisit their target lists and prioritize actions against high-value individuals involved in illegal drugs.
He emphasized the importance of close coordination with other government agencies and a robust barangay information network to monitor drug dealer activities.
“As much as possible, we have to focus on high-value individuals who possess huge volumes of shabu, in coordination with other government forces, and strengthen barangay information networks,” said Coronica.
Meanwhile, Brigadier General Jack Wanky, director of Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6), has directed city and provincial directors to enhance monitoring and operations in local ports to prevent the entry of illegal drugs.
“Our local ports that serve as transshipment points for illegal drugs must be well-guarded to prevent drug pushers from entering here,” Wanky said./PN
