ICPO warns motorists vs thieves

ILOILO City – Secure your motorcycles and never lend them to strangers.

“Don’t give carnappers the opportunity (to steal),” said Police Colonel Uldarico Garbanzos, the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) director.

Last week, a barber complained to the police his motorcycle was hijacked.

“Ang mga kawatan makakita lang sang gamay nga opportunity ma-strike ‘na sila. We better secure our motorcycles gid,” said Garbanzos.

He reminded drivers to lock their vehicles.

Kis-a ang mga drivers malipatan nila ang yabe kag kis-a bayaaan ang motor nga naga-andar. so alluring katama sa mga kawatan,” said Garbanzos.

He also appealed to establishments’ guards to secure their parking areas.

On May 3, 26-year-old barber Aljon Roquero complained to the police that his motorcycle was hijacked on De Leon Street, Barangay Roxas Village here.

He told city policemen a man who introduced himself as “Boy” of Barangay Boulevard, Molo offered him an affordable cellular phone.

The man successfully persuaded him to come along to get the item.

Roquero said he rode on his motorcycle together with the man.

Upon reaching De Leon Street, the man borrowed Roquero’s motorcycle “to meet the dealer”.

The barber said he waited for around 30 minutes but the man failed to return.

The following morning, the motorcycle was recovered in Barangay Tinuri-an, Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo./PN
