ILOILO City – To ensure compliance to labor rules and regulations, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 6 held an employers’ forum yesterday at Grand Xing Imperial Hotel on Iznart Street.

“Employers must be knowledgeable about labor laws and standards for compliance. So, kon i-inspection, ready man sila,” said DOLE-6 director Johnson Cañete.

DOLE has a yearly inspection of workplaces.

Most employers in Region 6 are compliant, according to Cañete. Those who do not are those who mostly lack information about DOLE policies, he said.

“Kailangan natin silang bigyan ng additional information para matulungan ang companies nila na maging compliant,” said Cañete.

Donna Rose Ratilla, governor of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry-Iloilo Chapter, agreed with Cañete.

“We must admit that some employers are misinformed or lack information about labor laws and standards. We must teach them,” said Ratilla.

The employers’ forum was held in coordination with Ratilla’s group.

Compliance to DOLE’s policies is beneficial to both employers and employees because it breeds industrial peace, said Ratilla.

Speakers at the forum included Monsignor Meliton Oso, chairperson of the Jaro Archdiocesan Social Action Center, and Atty. Alvin Curada from the Office the DOLE Secretary./PN
