ILOILO City – The grand homecoming parade for Miss Universe Philippines (MUP) 2020 Rabiya Mateo was burning in fiery red.

“This is a promise to you…I will do everything to bring home the fifth Miss Universe crown,” a pumped up Mateo said, drawing cheers from the crowd.

Ilonggos in red shirts brought red posters, banners and stormed the streets to cheer on the beauty queen.
The morena stunner aboard a white car adorned with flowers was indeed a sight to behold.

Draped in red Filipiniana by Ilonggo designer Ram Silva, the beauty queen’s energy lured people on the road amid scorching heat.

Time stopped for those who wanted to see the queen, who won the coveted title in the inaugural MUP on Oct. 25 during the pageant finals at the Baguio Country Club.

Supporters rushed out of their offices to witness the most beautiful woman in the country.
Fans screamed at the sight of Mateo, who was endlessly waving and smiling to well-wishers.
Employees of private and government offices went out and cheered for her, too, as the motorocade passed by Jaro district.

Policemen and traffic enforcers in their respective posts also took out their mobile phones to take photos of the Filipina-Indian beauty.

Despite the heat, Mateo tirelessly smiled to fans throughout the parade, which started around 12:20 p.m. at Richmonde Hotel in Mandurriao district and ended at around 2 p.m. at city hall.
In an Instagram post, Rabiya used the hashtag #PaintIloiloRed, echoing Mayor Jerry Treñas’ call for residents to wear the color during the homecoming festivities

Employees of the city government in red and with red leaflets from city hall, provincial capitol and the office of Cong. Julienne Baronda welcomed Mateo with cheers during her courtesy calls.

During a visit with Baronda, Mateo thanked all the Ilonggos for their overwhelming.

Napuli ta gid man balik ang korona sa City of Love. Indi ko ni maobra kon indi sa bulig ni Cong. Jam-jam Baronda kag sa tanan nga mga Ilonggos nga nagpakita sang suporta nila sa social media,” said Mateo.

Meanwhile, in a meet-and-greet with the Ilonggos at Festive Walk Mall in Mandurriao district, Mateo made a promise to do everything to bring home to the 5th Miss Universe crown for the Philippines.

“This is a promise to you…I will do everything to bring home the fifth Miss Universe crown,” Mateo said, which drew cheers from the crowd.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod led by Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon and the rest of its members handed Mateo a copy of a resolution congratulating her.

According to the schedule released by the Iloilo Festivals Foundation, Inc., Mateo’s activities included yesterday’s press conference and a ceremonial lighting of the Christmas Parol of Hope at SM City Iloilo in Mandurriao district.

Today, Nov. 14, Mateo is scheduled to lead a community outreach program and grace the ceremonial lighting of a Christmas tree at Festive Walk.

According to Treñas, the events planned for the beauty queen will also coincide with her 24th birthday on Saturday./PN
