BACOLOD City – Three suspected illegal firearms dealers were caught at the parking lot of the Bacolod City Government Center in Barangay Villamonte on Thursday.
An entrapment operation the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and Police Station 4 staged around 12:05 a.m. led to the arrest of the following:
* Raffy Magbanua of Barangay Manlocahoc, Sipalay City
* Joseph Comahig of Barangay Cartagena, Sipalay City
* Ian Ceralgo of Barangay 5, Sipalay City
Magbanua dealt with a CIDG poseur buyer for the purchase of an M16 (serial number 230883) with one magazine and 35 live bullets, police said.
Police Officer 3 Alfred Logara, who went undercover, handed Magbanua a bundle of cash covering newspaper cutouts in exchange for the firearm.
Police caught the cohort Comahig, who was sitting in a Toyota Hi-Ace van driven by Ceralgo.
Chief Inspector Rey Quanico of the CIDG and Senior Inspector Elmer Bonilla of Police Station 4 led the operation.
The suspects were in CIDG custody and facing charges for violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
On Monday the 27-year-old Eduardo Bascos Jr. of East Homes 4, Barangay Mansilingan was also arrested for alleged illegal firearms dealing.
The CIDG and Police Station 4 staged the entrapment along a road leading to city hall.
Officers recovered from Bascos a .45-caliber pistol with an unloaded magazine.
Bascos was also placed under CIDG custody./PN
