‘Illegal gun traders’ fall in Calinog sting op

ILOILO City – An entrapment resulted in the arrest of two suspected gunrunners in Barangay Poblacion Centro, Calinog, Iloilo.

The operation led the Calinog police to two men who, according to regional police intelligence, were on a province-wide trade.

Jerry Casire of Barangay Pasig, Lambunao town and Edwin Nufable of Barangay Poblacion, Calinog were detained at the Calinog police station.

Acting on a tip, the Calinog police staged the operation at around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Casire and Nufable sold to an undercover police officer a homemade .45 pistol for P15,000, according to Chief Inspector Jose Nemias Pamplona, municipal police head.

Prior to the entrapment, the suspects and the officer posing as a buyer transacted for more than a week after the police learned about the trade from a tipster, Pamplona said.

“The suspects agreed to meet in (Poblacion Centro),” said the police head. “They were arrested after they turned over the gun and received the money.”

Casire and Nufable have been engaged in the illicit trade for more than a year already, catering to clients across Iloilo province, records of the Police Regional Office 6’s Regional Intelligence Division showed.

Nufable looks for buyers and “informs Casire of any order,” Pamplona claimed.

Police have yet to determine where the suspects get their supplies./PN
