Illegal licensing services in Bacolod? LTO launches probe

BACOLOD City – The Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Region 6 has launched an investigation relative to persons allegedly introducing themselves as persons authorized by LTO to conduct “mobile licensing services”.

According to Reuben Tampos, chief of LTO-Bacolod, they received information about these persons making transactions with individuals who wanted to secure drivers’ licenses.

Further reports also reached their office that a printing press was allegedly manufacturing counterfeit drivers’ licenses.

The Anti-Red Tape Act (ARTA) unit of the LTO-6 was tasked to look into these reports, Tampos said.

In a radio interview, Assistant Director Gaudioso Geduspan of LTO-6 clarified that they have not authorized any persons to conduct mobile licensing services or hold house-to-house transaction and to make an advance payment as well.

Recently, an ARTA operation was able to apprehend 12 persons in the province of Iloilo for violation of Republic Act 9485 (Anti-Red Tape Act of 2007).

A violator may be imprisoned and shall be fined P500,000 to P2 million, Geduspan stressed.

He added that those who possess a fake driver’s license will be criminally liable./PN
