Illegally-dumped trash ‘a deliberate sabotage’

BACOLOD City – A “deliberate act of sabotage” was how Councilor Cindy Rojas called the garbage illegally dumped on Lopez Jaena Street.

“This is deliberate. Look at how the trash were so properly placed,” said Rojas, who chairs the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) committee on environment and ecology.

The assorted trash were dumped in the middle of the road in front of a hotel before dawn on Thursday, added Rojas.

The lady councilor urged Bacolodnons to be vigilant and report the same incidents in their villages to the authorities.

Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, chairman of the city government’s Solid Waste Action Team, said the trash “intentionally” dumped on the street was meant to “embarrass the administration.”

SP committee on health chairwoman Councilor Em Ang lamented the incident, saying: “Here we are, trying our best to elevate the image of our city as one of the cleanest, safest, most sustainable, and most competitive in the country yet there are these people who have the guts to do something like this.”

“This is despicable and I hope that whoever did this should be made to answer for their actions,” she added.

Officers from Police Station 4 were currently investigating the incident./PN
