ILOILO and Bacolod tennis players dominated the 1st Mayor’s Cup Executive and Veterans Open Doubles Tournament from Nov. 30 to Dec. 3 at the La Paz Tennis Center in Iloilo City.
Danny Sajonia and Joseph Olivar claimed the championship in the 40-Up category by beating fellow Ilonggos Rodel Borres and Jonito Crisosto.
Ilonggos Gerard Jardiolin and Atty. Dominic Oso ruled the Class category with a straight-set triumph over Carmela Bueno and Mayvonne de Juan of Team Iloilo in the finals.
Borres and Jovy Morante of Team Iloilo, on the other hand, settled for a silver medal in 50-Up after losing to Roy Tabo-Tabo and Rangkol Guiwemer of Cebu.
Bacolod City’s Arnold Rodriguez and Mark Gayo, meanwhile, took the championship in the Open category with a win over Japeth Bartolome and Eduardo Rodriguez of Bacolod City.
Nene Sabansay and Jusephus Cerna ruled 60-Up by beating fellow Bacolodnons Paquit Espanola and Pat Prieto in the championship match.
Players from around Visayas participated in the four-day tennis tournament presented by Mayor Jose Espinosa III, chairman of the Iloilo City Sports Council./PN
