ILOILO City – This city and Iloilo Province are stepping into the future of governance with the unveiling of the eGovPH application and the eLGU system, a significant move toward digital transformation.
These initiatives, developed by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), are designed to modernize the way local government services are delivered and experienced.
The eGovPH platform is set to integrate government services across different levels, offering a cohesive information system that can streamline administrative processes.
Meanwhile, the eLGU system will provide technical support to local government units (LGUs), assisting with capacity building, system development, and connecting frontline services with back-end functions.
“This is a significant step towards transforming how we serve our communities and citizens through modern technology. With eGovPH and eLGU, we aim to modernize, streamline, and bring local government services closer to the people,” said DICT regional director Ralph Joseph Moncatar, stressing the importance of the digital shift.
Iloilo City’s push for digital governance is also underscored by the establishment of its Data Assessment and System Management Office (DASMO). The office works with various government agencies and the private sector to enhance business processes, bringing more streamlined and accessible services to residents.
“Just last year, we conducted a training for our barangay officials on navigating the Iloilo City Web Portal, the Integrated Business and Permit Licensing Systems, Real Property Tax, and the online building permit fees. This initiative has equipped our local leaders to better serve their constituents and aligns with our vision to promote the adoption of e-services and online platforms, ultimately driving more efficient governance at the local level,” said Atty. Fydah Marie Sabando, who spoke on behalf of Mayor Jerry Treñas.
The new digital systems are expected to reduce the cost of doing business, simplify processes, and foster closer ties between the government and the people it serves.
The provincial government also expressed strong support for this digital leap. Dr. Raul Banias, Iloilo’s provincial administrator, emphasized that the eGovPH and eLGU systems were long anticipated.
“The whole-of-nation approach to digital transformation is exactly what we need rather than each local government unit (LGU) developing its own customized platform. With eGovPH and eLGU system, transactions within and across LGUs will be seamless, more efficient, and hopefully hassle-free,” he stated, noting the broader implications of this unified digital strategy.
With this initiative, Iloilo is positioning itself at the forefront of technological innovation in governance, aiming to simplify administrative tasks while enhancing service delivery across the region./PN
