ILOILO secondary boys basketball team like their chances for a title repeat in the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet 2019, which will start today at Roxas City, Capiz.
Iloilo team head coach Jophil Cercado told Panay News that, with a well-balanced lineup, he believes that they will be able to keep in step with other squads, especially the Negros Occidental.
“We have a well-balanced lineup so we like our chances here,” said Cercado. “Of course hindi kami pwede maging complacent dahil other teams have also prepared for this tournament.”
He added: “Negros Occidental and Capiz remains the team to look out for us, but Guimaras, Antique and Aklan also pose a threat so I told the players to give their 100 percent every game.”
Bannering the team were University of San Agustin standouts Val Ranier Deano, Arthur Peter Tuballes, Rexmar Matulac, John Michael Vicencio, Carl Ranier Magtanao, Noel Daniel Mayor, and John Lenard Magbanua.
Also part of the team were Reynold Tupas and Renier Gamboa of Hua Siong College of IIoilo, Lester Valn Paraico from CenterPhil Montessori, Key Nan Arante from 5th District, and Paolo Ballano from 3rd District.
“Save for three players, this team has been together since the ISSC (lloilo School Sports Council) Meet so the chemistry among the players is already there and it was developed further during our trainings,” Cercado said./PN
