Iloilo Chess Hunters rule Apatan Chess Liga 2nd leg

ILOILO Chess Hunters bounced back from a runner-up finish in the first leg by ruling the second leg of the United Iloilo Apatan Chess Liga, which was held recently at the GT Town Center Pavia in Pavia, Iloilo.

Led by Dennis Bernas, Rosendo Reyes, Patrick Panaligan, and Hubert Canto, the Iloilo Chess Hunters squad ruled the tournament and took home the top prize of P8,000.

Team CTAP of National Master Cesar Mariano, Kris Matthew Garcia, Steve Matutino, and Leo Aguirre settled for a runner-up finish with a cash prize of P6,000.

Team Oton Wood Pushers League of John Michael Silvederio, Ronel Ballesteros, Bernard Gallo and Elmer Britanico bagged the bronze medal and cash prize of P4,000.

The National Chessers of the Philippines-rated Open Chess Liga was participated by 18 chess teams (72 chess players) coming from Iloilo, Capiz, and Guimaras.

The 3nd Leg of the United Iloilo Chess Liga will be held in GT Town Center-Pavia on May 25, 2019./PN
