Iloilo City cited for family planning, adolescent health programs

ILOILO City – This city has been recognized as a “Global Self-Reliant City” by The Challenge Initiative (TCI) for its family planning and adolescent sexual and reproductive health initiatives.

During the city’s flag-raising ceremony on Monday, April 28, TCI lauded Iloilo City’s leadership and commitment to implementing innovative and sustainable community-driven health programs.

The international platform cited the city’s achievements in training 601 community health workers, 252 postpartum family planning providers, 831 mobile outreach service providers, and 290 adolescent-friendly health service providers.

The city also conducted 95 mobile outreach activities and organized 480 demand-generation campaigns aimed at boosting public awareness and encouraging community engagement. As a result, 100 percent of eligible health facilities in Iloilo City now offer postpartum family planning and adolescent-friendly health services.

Iloilo City officially partnered with TCI in May 2023 and has since emerged as a model for local governments seeking to create effective, sustainable health programs.
