ILOILO City – The city government appointed a new chief for its City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO).

Donna Magno assumed office on April 19, replacing Jose Papa who retired from the position.

A former project coordinator of the five-year Community-Based Adaptation and Resilience Against Disaster (CBARAD) II of the city funded by CityNet Yokohama Office, Magno is equipped with expertise on disaster-related competencies and trainings.

She also used to be a training specialist of the Office of Civil Defense Region 6 and has extensive work experience with communities and non-government organizations.

Through the CBARAD project, Magno’s coordination and supervision was able to capacitate the CDRRM Council, involved constituents particularly the vulnerable sectors, and created widespread awareness advocacies and initiatives to make the metropolis more resilient.

With Magno’s appointment, it is expected that the programs and projects started during CBARAD implementation will be continued and replicated to become sustainable and benefit the stakeholders.

Magno said she was grateful for the opportunity to continue working with City Hall as she has now the responsibility and capability to initiate and fully implement disaster preparedness plans and priorities. (Iloilo City PIO/PN)
