ILOILO City – The city government is calling on Dinagyang Festival revelers to enjoy the celebrations responsibly, particularly when it comes to alcohol consumption.
Known for its spirited street parties, Dinagyang attracts tourists both domestic and foreign.
As the city comes alive with the sound of drums and lively music, Mayor Jerry Treñas has approved a request from local bar owners to extend hours for the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages.
This temporary adjustment will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 4 a.m., from January 26 to 29, 2024, aiming to enhance the festival experience while ensuring public safety.
The extension comes with a strong message of moderation. Revelers are urged to be aware of their limits to maintain a safe and inclusive atmosphere for all attendees.
The decision to extend alcohol sale hours was made in response to the Iloilo Bar Owners’ Association’s petition, highlighting the potential to boost local business and tourism.
In addition to the festive arrangements, significant security measures will be in place.
Philippine Army personnel will support the Philippine National Police and other agencies such as the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Bureau of Fire Protection, and Philippine Coast Guard in ensuring the safety of the public during the event.
The Dinagyang Festival, celebrated for its deep-rooted heritage and the spirited community of Iloilo, is a time of joy and festivity. The city government and local businesses vowed to provide a memorable experience for visitors, advocating for a balance between celebration and responsible behavior.
Early this week, the city government issued the following reminders/suggestions for revelers:
* Wear comfortable clothes and protect yourself from the heat.
* Stay hydrated.
* Take care of your belongings.
* Be aware of the locations of police assistance and first aid booths.
* Familiarize the route for Dinagyang Festival 2024.
