NOW it’s getting hot and scandalous. It was bannered that JOE 1-2-3 offered to give up the city mayoralty race to JERRY for only P100 million. It’s cheap, isn’t it?
Of course, JOE denied the alleged offer; he said it was a figment of JERRY’S wild imagination.
Considering that the city earns about P1 billion to P2 billion a month…correct me cause I’m wrong…P100 million is fair and reasonable.
You can easily recover it in January during the renewal of business licenses and permits and the infrastructure projects of Build. Build. Build. Borrow. Borrow. Borrow. And the underground drainage. Road repair, maintenance and re-pair again. Plus the flowers along the highway which, like those of spinsters and old women, are wilted and need to be re-planted and watered.
There are a lot of rackets……ah, improvements to be made in Iloilo City. There is the MORE franchise; with more to be collected from Manila Water and other applicants whose supporting pesos…errrr….papers have to be counted and studied. Public office is a lucrative profession. And P100 million for Iloilo City is really a pittance.
Maybe JERRY doesn’t have P100 million…. no, he has more. That’s it…he might have felt insulted by the offer. Remember, he comes from the House where money is found at the C.R. It was the wrong figure.
The news is out but it’s everybody’s game. Has politics come to this? Political office for sale?
What will the other corrupt…chartered cities think of us? They will look down upon us and smirk…because they have long been doing it. Buying and selling public office. P100M for City Hall. If it went down to P100 Mel Carreon will buy it.
How will this issue play out? Food for thought to the jaded political pundit.
There many factors to consider in a political campaign… all mind-boggling, hair-splitting and downright exasperating. You have to deal with people all over the district, with different political moods and mental persuasions; offensive odors; disgreeable with intrigues and scandals against each other; united only by money. We have no quarrel there.
Come election day and review of the election returns, you will wonder where your money went. You have to buy your own relatives otherwise they will vote against you.
And the political exercise will take so much toll on your physical, mental, sexual…errrr, social and most important,…financial condition. So, probably, the candidate realized his mistake, just decided to be reimbursed his troubles and expenses and come out even…with a little profit. Not a bad idea.
And what do the voters care? They appear only during elections and will just be paid, anyway.
As it is, the study of government has become a tired ideal: That public office is a public trust. It is now more of a private trust fund. And the old worn-out rallying cry of politicians, election year in and out, that they are running for public office to serve the people. What the heck?
If we go by the headline….we are for sale. The position of city mayor is open for sale…P100M. How could you, JOE 1-2-3? I know it isn’t true.
Who will sing Buchiki and Bikining Itim for us every Land of the Morning? Don’t abandon your supporters. Give us something to be prove of….ask for more!/PN
