Iloilo City gets cholera vaccine

ILOILO City – As committed by the city’s major water supplier, Metro Pacific Iloilo Water (MetroPac), it has procured 1,000 doses of vaccine against cholera for the city.

According to City Health Office (CHO) medical officer IV, Dr. Roland Jay Fortuna, they are currently identifying those who will be prioritized for vaccination.

Barangays with clustering of acute gastroenteritis (AGE) and cholera cases will be at the top of the list.

The vaccine can be administered to individuals aged one year old and above, said Fortuna.

The CHO will focus their vaccination on pediatric age group because, as data show, most AGE cases belong to the said age group.

The city council earlier passed a resolution placing the city under the state of calamity due to AGE and cholera, and along with it was the approval of the P12.5-million quick response fund to be used for various needs to combat the disease, including the procurement of vaccines and medicines.

The P3 million of the said fund is allotted for medicines, which the government will be using to procure more anti-cholera vaccines.

“We will try also to look for some more vaccines kay ti may naaprobahan naman ang city council nga fund para mausar sa mga kinanglanon,” said Mayor Jerry P. Treñas.

Aside from the vaccines, MetroPac also donated 500 drums of chlorine to the city government./PN
