ILOILO City – The city government has taken cognizance of the Department of Health’s (DOH) warning on a possible surge in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections after the May 9 elections.
Mayor Jerry Treñas said the quarantine facilities and the modular field hospitals are ready.
The city government has also bought Molnupiravir, the first oral anti-viral drug clinically proven to reduce the risk of hospitalization or death due to COVID-19.
“We are ready but hopeful that the spike will not happen,” said Treñas.
He also confirmed that yesterday the city’s district health centers started making avaible COVID-19 vaccines as second booster shots to senior citizens and immune compromised residents.
“We have to continue campaigning for booster shots. May iban pa nga daw nakulbaan gid,” said Treñas.
DOH warned of a possible spike in COVID-19 cases in the middle of May if Filipinos continue to disregard health protocols (wearing of facemask, physical distancing and disinfection of hands).
Compliance to minimum public health standards (MPHS) declined by 12% in Metro Manila and 7% nationwide in March and April, according to DOH.
Its data was based on the sub-Technical Working Group on Data Analytics (sTWG DA) and the Feasibility Analysis of Syndromic Surveillance using Spatio-temporal Epidemiological Modeler for Early Detection of Diseases (FASSSTER) Team./PN
