ILOILO City – United States Ambassador to the Philippines Sung Y. Kim was impressed by developments in the city.
Mayor Jose “Joe” Espinosa III and city councilors welcomed Kim and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) officials to the city hall on April 19.
“While traveling to city hall, I have seen a lot of new construction sites. It only shows that there is really a great development here,” Kim said.
The ambassador said he was glad that USAID made significant contributions to local economic growth and investment.
“I’ve only heard good things about Iloilo from some people, but now that I was able to personally see this city, I agree with them,” said Kim.
“This place has more to offer. I’m hoping that this will continue with the help of USAID,” he added.
Espinosa thanked the United States government for its support.
“USAID has been part of every successful project and development that our city enjoys,” said the mayor.
“We will always be thankful for their help, especially in education, environment, health, and economy,” he said. “I hope there will be more programs that would greatly benefit our beloved city and people.”
Among the local government projects completed with USAID assistance were:
* Iloilo River Development Master Plan
* streamlined new registrations and renewals of business permits
* Water Security for Resilient Economic Growth and Stability
* Science and Technology, Research and Innovation for Development
* Investment Enabling Environment
* Iloilo Means Business Forum
* Building Low Emission Alternatives to Develop Economic Resilience and Sustainability
* Strengthening Urban Resilience for Growth with Equity
According to Espinosa, a strong collaboration between USAID and the city government will be maintained for future projects. (Thessalonia Ordales, Iloilo City PIO/PN)
