ILOILO City – Excitement brews in this city as plans are underway to secure a Guinness World Record for creating the largest human image of a bicycle.

This ambitious feat forms part of the upcoming Iloilo Bike Festival, hosted by the Iloilo Business Park and supported by the Iloilo City Government.

The festival, themed “Cycle for Change”, marks its 10th anniversary and spans from June 5 to July 28 with an array of events.

Organizers aim to involve 5,000 participants in forming a colossal bicycle image.

Additionally, the festival anticipates a massive turnout of 8,000 to 10,000 attendees across its various events that emphasize community engagement, environmental advocacy, and health and wellness.

Iloilo City has garnered recognition as a bicycle-friendly city, bolstered by initiatives like dedicated bike lanes and amenities throughout the expansive 72-hectare Iloilo Business Park, a township of Megaworld.

“We’ve been proud partners of the Iloilo Bike Festival for a decade now. Our collaboration with the Iloilo City Government underscores our commitment to promoting sustainable lifestyles and fostering a healthy environment,” said Karmela Alexandra C. Jesena, general manager of Megaworld’s Festive Walk Iloilo located at the Iloilo Business Park.

Architect Wilfredo Sy Jr. highlighted preparations for the Guinness record attempt, including the development of an event website for seamless registration and safety protocols.

“We’ve learned from past experiences and are conducting two dry runs to minimize risks,” he affirmed.

Previously, in 2017, the festival aimed for another Guinness record but fell short of their target due to logistical challenges. Despite these setbacks, enthusiasm remains high for achieving the latest endeavor of forming the world’s largest human bicycle image./PN
