ILOILO City – An employee of the city government yielded shabu in a buy-bust operation of the police in Barangay Poblacion, Molo district.

On the first day of 2018, 40-year-old Stephen Azarcon of Barangay San Isidro, Jaro district was detained at the Molo police station.

He sold a sachet of shabu for P500 to an undercover police officer, said Chief Inspector Marlon Valencia, Molo police chief.

Azarcon was a utility personnel at the General Services Office of city hall.

The buy-bust operation was carried out around 10:40 p.m. The police recovered from the suspect four more sachets of shabu, said Valencia.

Azarcon was placed under surveillance for two weeks prior to the buy-bust.

“He started selling only this year,” said Valencia. “We have to verify his claim that he got this supply from the Prevendido drug group in Barangay Bakhaw, Mandurriao district.”

Azarcon faces a charge for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Regional Drug Enforcement Unit chief Senior Inspector Kennith Bermejo recently said “down lines” and relatives of slain drug lord Richard Prevendido took over his illegal drug business./PN
