ILOILO City – The city government plans to extend financial assistance to local government units (LGUs) hit by massive flooding due to Tropical Depression “Agaton” in northern Iloilo and Capiz.
According to Mayor Jerry Treñas, he is waiting for the recommendation of the City Disaster Risk and Reduction and Management Office.
“Indi lang ko kabalo kon ma-exempt ina, ukon may issues pa na sa Commission on Elections (Comelec) kay ti bal-an mo financial assistance indi mahatag sa tiempo sang election,” said Treñas.
The financial assistance may be extracted from the city’s calamity fund.
“Kon kinanglan, mahulat kita after sang election spending ban. But I think everyone should understand nga kadako gid sang epekto sang baha sa mga munisipyo sa Capiz kag sa northern lloilo,” said Treñas.
Iloilo City, as an LGU not affected by “Agaton”, has the moral responsibility to help the affected LGUs, he stressed.
On the other hand, the city mayor commended the five-man Urban Rescue Unit sent by the city government to northern Iloilo. It was able to help retrieve two dead bodies./PN
