ILOILO City – Authorities placed this southern city under “blue alert” status to heighten preparedness for Typhoon “Auring.”
Over the weekend, the city government ordered all barangay disaster risk reduction and management committees (BDRRMCs) to activate their respective Barangay Operations Centers and closely coordinate with the city DRRM operations center.
Meanwhile, the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) also prepositioned relief packages for distribution.
“We are ensuring that relief packages are available for families that may be evacuated,” said Mayor Jerry Treñas.
The CSWDO also prepared the evacuation centers in each district and coordinated with village officials from those identified under “Storm Surge High Risk Barangays.”
Likewise, city government personnel convened barangay officials from low-lying areas to ensure preparedness and inform them of possible evacuation sites.
In Barangay Mansaya, Lapuz district, officials pruned trees, declogged sewers and conducted information dissemination.
Barangays Cubay and Quintin Salas in Jaro district and Ingore, Hinactacan and Caingin in La Paz also conducted information drives.
The villages of Sinikway, Mansaya and Libertad in Lapuz district were close monitoring their coastal areas.
Barangays General Hughes, Flores and Muelle Loney in City Proper prepared relief goods.
Barangays Airport, Hibao-an and Onate De Leon in Mandurriao district prepared their emergency equipment and first-aid kits.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration hoisted storm signal No. 1 in the northern and central portions of Iloilo, including Iloilo City./PN
