ILOILO City – The city government opened it first-ever Uswag Dialysis Center 1 in Barangay East Baluarte, Molo district on Monday.
Mayor Jerry Treñas and Cong. Julienne Baronda, with representative from the Department of Health, led the blessing and inauguration.
“Chronic kidney disease is on the rise in the Asia-Pacific and continues to be a major public health problem. The Department of Health identified renal or kidney diseases as one of the 10 leading causes of mortality in the country. To assist my beloved Ilonggos, I started talking to various departments and agencies to build our very own dialysis center that will offer services for free to lessen their medical expenses,” Treñas said.
The city mayor expressed his gratitude to everyone who participated in making the project possible.
It was a challenge finding funds to accomplish the center, he said, but eventually the city government was able to use its own funds./PN
