Iloilo City starts preps for ‘Undas’

BY MARY JOY CAVAÑAS

ILOILO City – The City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) has started preparations for this year’s Undas in Iloilo City.

According to Engr. Neil Ravena, head of CENRO, they are forming task forces to be deployed in different cemeteries across the city on the All Saints’ and All Souls’ days on Nov. 1 and 2, respectively.

In anticipation of the crowds, the city is eyeing additional teams assigned on the streets going to the cemeteries.

As Ilonggos started cleaning the tombs, Ravena said they were planning to put more trash bins.

“We will have assigned teams aside from our task forces to man the city streets going to the cemeteries. The grass cuttings and garbage collection areas were also set,” Ravena said in an interview with Bombo Radyo Iloilo.

CENRO plans to install portable toilets, or communal comfort rooms, within the cemeteries.

Ravena is set to meet with the Public Safety and Transportation Management Office, Iloilo City Police Office, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and other departments to discuss peace and safety measures.

The city government is overseeing three public cemeteries – the Tanza Public Cemetery in Barangay Tanza-Timawa II in City Proper; the one in Barangay Quintin Salas, Jaro district; and the one in Barangay Jereos, La Paz district.

There are also privately managed cemeteries in the city – at least four, mostly in Jaro and Mandurriao./PN
