Iloilo City still waiting for Notice of Compliance for ‘enhanced’ LPTRP

ILOILO City – Nearly a month after the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) approved the enhanced Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP) of this city, it has yet to issue a Notice of Compliance to the city government.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) is waiting for the said notice so it can adopt and pass the enhanced LPTRP ordinance.

The SP Committee on Transportation chaired by Councilor Sedfrey Cabaluna already conducted a committee hearing regarding the enhanced route plan ordinance which amended the original ordinance and incorporates the approved changes.

But the committee report was deferred for the meantime. The city councilor targets to deliver it again and be passed for adoption by next week.

“By next week ipasar ta ang aton committee report together with the ordinance na. Hopefully ang ginahulat-hulat ta nga Notice of Compliance from the LTFRB maabot na. Kon ara na ina, wala rason nga indi naton mapasar ang aton LPTRP,” he said.

In his committee report, Cabaluna noted there were concerns presented during the hearing as to the number of units that could ply the route which may not be amended for three years.

“We recognize the fact that the City of Iloilo is growing rapidly and changes in demographics of people in the area could develop, thus, some level of flexibility to respond to that circumstances is required,” he said.

The committee chair also pointed out concerns of the public as to the fleet management of cooperatives. He noted that his office received reports of overloading and the recklessness of some drivers.

“We reiterate that modernized jeepneys are supposed to be convenient, safe, affordable, efficient, predictable, and sustainable. The actions of the few reflect adversely to our direction and transport cooperatives should be at the forefront of managing their personnel to ensure that we live up to the expectations of our people,” he stressed.
