ILOILO City – This city will host the first-ever Philippine Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) Games Visayas Leg from Aug. 13 to 19.
A memorandum of agreement was signed between the city government, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Commission on Higher Education, and West Visayas State University on Aug. 7.
The Philippine ROTC Games will gather all athletes from different state universities and colleges and private universities under the ROTC program in Regions 6, 7, and 8.
Around 1,000 athletes have already registered, but the number is still expected to increase as the event draws closer, said Major General Elpidio Talja, commander of the Philippine Air Force Reserve Command.
Sporting events include volleyball, basketball, boxing, kickboxing, arnis, athletics, and e-sports.
Talja said the ROTC Games will be an avenue to hone the skills of Filipino athletes and allow the country to have its representatives in international sports events.
The opening ceremony of the Philippine ROTC Games Visayas Leg will be held on Aug. 13 at the Iloilo Sports Complex. (Iloilo City PIO)/PN
