ILOILO City – The city government is joining the 5th China Maritime Silk Road International Brand Expo (MSREXPO2019) in Quanzhou City, China from April 18 to 21.
Quanzhou City is a sister city of Iloilo City. The sisterhood agreement was signed last year. Iloilo City’s participation to the expo is the first economic cooperation between the two cities.
Che Gavan, the city government’s Local Economic Investment Promotions (LEIPO) head, said they will be bringing to Quanzhou exhibitors from Iloilo to showcase food products, hablon textile and hablon creations by distinguished Ilonggo fashion designers.
“We are introducing the products of Iloilo to the world. We are opening Iloilo to the world through this expo,” said Gavan.
The expo will be participated by more than 300 exhibitors from 40 countries.
“We want to make sure that the products we will be bringing there are unique, distinct sya in Iloilo,” said Lea Lara, executive director of the Iloilo Business Club.
The club is partnering with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in the selection of Iloilo products to be marketed at the expo.
This is the first time for Iloilo City to be joining an international expo.
The city government’s other partners in this effort are the Panay and Iloilo chapters of the Philippine Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc.
Gavan said Mayor Jose Espinosa III will likely join the Iloilo delegates to the expo./PN
