Iloilo City virus ‘hotpots’ log more cases

ILOILO City – More cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) were recorded at the Iloilo Fish Port Complex and call center IQOR – the two city areas with notable increase in infections in the past days.

As of 4 p.m. yesterday, the number of infected persons at the fish port complex further swelled to 167, data from the Iloilo City COVID Team showed.

From 131, COVID-19 cases at IQOR jumped to 149 – 92 of which were detected in Iloilo City while 57 in Iloilo province, it added.

According to the Aug. 12 data of the Department of Health 6, this southern city registered the most number of COVID-19 cases in Western Visayas at 423. Forty new confirmed cases added yesterday.

Of the 423, 324 were active cases while 89 recovered and 10 died.

Jeck Conlu, COVID team spokesperson, said three barangays were still on total lockdown (Rizal Pala-Pala 1 and 2 in City Proper and San Juan, Molo district) while 12 others were under “surgical lockdown”. 

There were also 11 barangays on the watchlist for possible surgical lockdown for having two or three confirmed cases.  

In Iloilo province, the municipality of Pavia has highest number of infected call center agents from IQOR.

Dr. Patricia Grace Trabado of the Provincial Health Office said the town recorded nine infections from Aug. 8 to 12.

The towns of Miag-ao, Oton and Tigbauan came in second with five each.

They were followed by Santa Barbara and Dingle with four each;  San Joaquin, Pototan and  San Miguel with three each; Leon, Dumangas and Calinog with two each and Passi City, Ajuy, San Dionisio, Leganes, New Lucena, Banate, Janiuay, Badiangan, Lambunao, and Cabatuan with one each.

Trabado said of these positive call center agents were in isolation at quarantine facilities of their respective local government units./PN
