ILOILO City – The recovery rate of patients infected with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) reached 90 percent in this city.
The city government’s COVID-19 situational report as of Oct. 28 showed a total of 3,783 people confirmed infected, with 3,382 of them fully recovering and being released from quarantine.
This left the number of active cases being monitored at 317.
Meanwhile, 84 or almost two percent of the positive cases died from the disease.
The city’s COVID-19 cases account about 23 percent of the total 16,181 cases in Western Visayas.
Mayor Jerry Treñas said he won’t stop looking for ways to flatten the curve.
“We have been fighting a long and tiring battle. I am proud of how we work together as one. We are united in this battle and we will end this war together for a brighter Iloilo City for this and the future generations,” Treñas stressed.
On Oct. 29, a total of 21 city barangays with 29 cases were recorded by the Iloilo City COVID Team, bringing the average cases to 49 per day.
“We have identified that many of those who took the swab test did not isolate and some resulted to virus transmission,” Treñas explained.
The mayor already requested for strict interventions, especially in barangay level.
“We must remember that negligence can risk the lives of others. Let us do what is right rather than what is easy and convenient to safeguard every Ilonggo families,” Treñas said.
He also disclosed that by the second week of November, the city can hopefully open its molecular laboratory to expand testing – a key strategy to curb the disease’s spread.
Personnel of the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine and Department of Health recently assessed and evaluated the laboratory’s layout of the equipment and mechanical plans. They also made recommendations with the placement of the RNA extraction and polymerase chain reaction machines.
“We hope that we can open the lab as soon as the inspection is approved to cater more COVID-19 concerns and the service will be free for the Ilonggos,” Treñas said./PN
