Iloilo Doctors’ College captures San Jose Basketball League crown

ASIALINK-Iloilo Doctors’ College clinched the crown in the JB Sports San Jose Ballers Club Basketball League after beating Team Malditos in the finals, 74-63, at the La Paz Plaza Gym in La Paz, Iloilo City.

Lorence Nicole Magtolis was hailed as the Most Valuable Player after finishing with 27 points, while Denry Rodriguez and Jade Bryan Jardio added 16 and 11 markers, respectively.

Both teams showed their wares early in the tightly-contested gold medal match but the Asialink-Iloilo Doctors’ College gained headways in the second half to run away with the championship.

Also part of the winning team were Christian Acero, Kent Louie Quitayen, Christian Lanza, Rico Tambalo, Jan Edgar Fernandez, Rico Tatlonghari, Reden Denihay, Jhon Carlo Magtolis, Marvelous Taghap, Dave Flores, Alexander Parcon, Raymark Arguelles, Darryl Deaño, Ronnel Maru, Melven Alleta, and Raymund Septimo.

“It’s a total team effort for us,” said team manager Philip Punzalan. “It was really tough for us all tournament long. Good thing the players maintained their aggressiveness in this do-or-die match.”

John Davis Paquingan finished with 23 points, four assists and two rebounds for the losing Team Malditos.

On their way to the championship round, the Gerardo Mosqueda-mentored IDC defeated J. Cordon Construction, while Team Malditos reached the gold medal round by eliminating Conlu Customs./PN
