MAKATO, Aklan – The Iloilo elementary boys football team kicked off their title defense in the 2023 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet with an 8-0 domination of Aklan on Thursday at the Aklan Sports Complex here.
Kurt Arnel Deoduco converted a hat trick to lead the Iloilo side. Alfin Bayotas chipped in two goals, while Nathan Howard Caligdong and Jhon Army Condino added a goal each in the lopsided win.
Team Iloilo’s other point came from an own goal violation by an Aklan player, a conversion that allowed the defending champions to build a 3-0 advantage.
Drystan Alexandrae Delgado-Torres also nearly scored for the Barotac Nuevo Elementary School-represented Team Iloilo but his conversion was later ruled as an offside by the referees.
The Iloilo elementary boys booters are set to return to action late Friday afternoon against the winner of the Negros Occidental – Capiz game, which was being played as of press time.
Iloilo secondary boys football team also started their title retention bid on a winning note. They scored a 3-0 domination of Capiz on Thursday morning.
Novie Paraiso, Jaymark Magallanes and Ken Lewis Biclar served as the goal scorers for the defending champions Iloilo, which moved closer to a return trip to the finals.
Meanwhile, Pontevedra Fire Antz-Capiz moved closer to securing a semifinals seat in the secondary girls volleyball tournament after splitting their games at the Laguimbanua Elementary School.
The Capiznon opened their campaign with a victory over Antique on Thursday morning before suffering a straight-set defeat to defending champions Negros Occidental in the afternoon.
In secondary boys basketball, Negros Occidental, represented by Colegio de Sta. Ana de Victorias, scored a 90-78 victory over Aklan, represented by Melchor Memorial School, to kick off their campaign./PN
