ILOILO – The provincial government is putting a map overlay that will make it easier to identify the status of provincial and barangays roads.
Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. wanted a data-based approach on provincial road improvement projects.
Thus, he ordered the creation of a map overlay that will help provincial government indicate if roads are already concreted or not and with pending requests.
He met with the provincial engineer’s office (PEO) earlier to discuss the status of infrastructure projects in the province.
“We are putting up a system so that the concreting of provincial roads will be clear,” he said.
The province currently has a pending P302-million fund for road projects. It has roughly 600 kilometers of provincial road and more than 300 kilometers are already concreted.
Defensor underscored that apart from provincial roads, barangay roads should also have a map overlay.
It has to be clear, he said, if which roads need maintenance work and those with requests for concreting.
He added they prepared criteria to prioritize the concreting of barangay roads because the provincial government could not afford to spend for their concreting or even re-graveling.
Apart from the concreting and re-graveling, there is also an ongoing road opening projects that are being done by the province or by the municipality in cooperation with the province.
The provincial government will be utilizing its Civil Defense Operations Center for the map overlay. (With a report from PNA/PN)
