ILOILO City – Mayor Jerry Treñas has allowed the Iloilo Fish Port Complex to operate again but “subject to the discretion of management” and “provided that strict adherence to health standards and COVID-19 interventions and protocols are observed.”
The fish port in Barangay Tanza, City Proper is under the supervision of the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority, an attached agency of the Department of Agriculture.
It was locked down nearly two weeks ago after it was discovered that over 150 people working there had been there contracted SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes coronavirus disease 2019.
Treñas allowed the fish port’s reopening in Executive Order No.129 issued on Aug. 17.
The mayor also allowed the reopening of the Iloilo Terminal Market, popularly known as “Super”, but only until 5p.m. daily.
Also, its fish section has been allowed to reoperate along Fuentes Street, City Proper.
Both the fish port and “Super” were decontaminated while in lockdown.
“Super” was closed last week after two staff of the city government’s Local Economic Enterprise Office (LEEO) assigned there contracted SARS-CoV-2.
The LEEO supervises the operation of public markets.
Jeck Conlu, the city government’s COVID-19 spokesperson, said all market-goers are required to wear facemask and face shield.
They will also be subjected to thermal scanning upon entering the market, he added.
“We are regulating ang makasulod sa Super. Kon medyo magutok, gina-stop naton ang pagpasulod. Pagwaon anay naton antis naman kita magpasulod sang gapila sa sa gwa,” said Conlu./PN
