ILOILO – Twelve public hospitals in the province are now on “white code alert” in anticipation of untoward incidents during the holidays.
The “white code alert” status means that these hospitals must be ready to admit patients.
It took effect on Dec. 21 and will last until Jan. 1, according to a memorandum issued by the provincial government’s Hospital Management Office (HMO) dated Dec. 20.
Hospital personnel are “on call” so they could immediately respond to emergencies, said Dr. Alberto Cordero, chief of the Rep. Pedro Trono Memorial District Hospital and officer-in-charge of the HMO.
“All hospital personnel are on ‘on-call status,’ especially ang aton surgeon and nurses. Ready sila mag-respond to any calls, especially sa aton personnel nurses nga nagatinir sa dorm within vicinity sang hospitals,” said Cordero.
The hospitals include:
* Aleosan District Hospital in Barangay Bancal, Alimodian
* Barotac Viejo District Hospital in Barangay San Lucas, Barotac Viejo
* Dr. Ricardo S. Provido Memorial District Hospital in Barangay Dalid, Calinog
* Don Valerio Palmares Sr. Memorial District Hospital on Alfelor Street, Passi City
* Dr. Ricardo Y. Ladrido Memorial District Hospital in Barangay Poblacion, Ilawod, Lambunao

Cordero also assured that the hospitals have enough supply of medicines, particularly antibiotics, which are used to treat firecracker victims.
“We target to have zero firecracker casualties this year,” said Cordero.
The HMO works with the Department of Health in implementing the “Iwas Paputok” campaign to achieve the target.
In line with this, Cordero urged the public to refrain from using firecrackers during the holiday celebrations. He encouraged safer ways of celebrating like using blow horns, or torotot./PN
