ILOILO City – This city impressed experts of protocol and global image development in preparation for the hosting of at least two meetings of 50th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) 2017 this March.
The resource persons were here for a four-day ASEAN 2017 Skills Enhancement Training Program for the Personnel and Volunteers of the Local Government Unit participated by 26 liaison officers and 60 students at Richmonde Hotel from Feb. 20 to 23.
The endeavor, which aimed to ensure a successful hosting of ASEAN events, was organized by the Carlos P. Romulo School of Diplomacy of Foreign Service Institute (FSI) of Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
“I love Iloilo, it’s beautiful. The officers are competent and at par with world standards. You have to give your best to showcase as a people and city and be proud as chosen site with your readiness and requirements,” said Retired Ambassador to Brazil Eva G. Betita.
“I am amazed of the development and beautiful people with good demeanor,” she added.
The city passed the criteria in terms of airport, infrastructures, accommodation and conference venues and facilities, and places of interest, among others.
Protocol presentor Retired Ambassador Fortunato Oblena, professor of College of International Relations of Lyceum of the Philippines University, was all praises of the metropolis.
“From landing at the airport to the city, I am very much impressed that Iloilo is very beautiful and it reflects how government management is being done for the people and visitors. And I am just impressed with the liaison officers and student volunteers,” stressed Oblena.
The city has impressive infrastructures with beautiful roads, buildings and hotels, he added.
The Iloilo Convention Center is “super beautiful and matches those abroad,” Oblena said.
Global Image Management (GIM) managing director Karina A. Crisostomo credited the liaison officers and volunteers as “among the very best and I’m very impressed with the dynamic group here.”
“It’s my first time here and I’m blown away by the place and the people. The airport, highway and signage are international, no wonder Iloilo City was chosen as venue. I also love the food and the hotel,” said GIM director Karen Agustin-Ostrea, Bb. Pilipinas Universe 2002.
The city will be hosting the 22nd Senior Officials Meeting and the 17th ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Council (ASCC) Meeting from March 6 to 9 and the 3rd ASEAN Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development Good Regulatory Practice Network Meeting from March 14 to 15. (Iloilo City PIO/PN)
