MANILA – Iloilo Kisela Knights finished its maiden Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) campaign as bronze medalists following a 14-7 triumph over San Juan Predators on Saturday night.
The Kisela Knights kicked the battle-for-third place with a slim 4-3 win over the Predators on victories by Cherry Ann Mejia, Fritz Bryan Porras, and Dennis Bernas and draws by Joey Antonio Jr. and Karl Victor Ochoa.
They had a better showing in the rapid event after beating San Juan, 10-4, courtesy of victories by Ochoa, Bernas, Porras, and Cesar Mariano and deadlocks by Antonio and Mejia.
The Knights were relegated to the third-place match following a close 1-2 defeat on the hands of Camarines Soaring Eagle during the Southern Division Finale last Wednesday.
“I am proud of the Iloilo Kisela Knights for fighting like a real champion. They never gave up until the end. They gave all their best,” Kisela Knights team owner Leo Sotaridona said. “This will be a learning experience for the team. We will improve and come back better next conference.”
