MANILA – Iloilo Kisela Knights tarnished the erstwhile unblemished slate of Caloocan Loadmanna Knights, 11.5-9.5 in the first conference of the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) on Saturday night.
Women FIDE Master (WFM) Cherry Ann Mejia, Cesar Mariano, Fritz Bryan Porras and John Michael Silvederio scored a win each while Karl Victor Ochoa halved point with his foe as they defeated Caloocan in Blitz game, 4.5-2.5.
Mejia, Mariano and Dennis Bernas tallied two points each while Grand Master (GM) Joey Antonio added a point as they were forced to a draw with Loadmanna Knights in the Rapid event, 7-7.
Later that night, the Kisela Knights recorded its second consecutive victory following a lopsided 18-3 domination over the Cagayan Kings to move to a share of top spot in Southern Division with 11-2 win-loss slate.
The Kisela Knights were dominant in the Blitz game against the Kings with Antonio, Mejia, Mariano, Porras, Silvederio, Ilongga Fiona Guirhem and Mark Mariano scoring a point each.
Iloilo maintained the momentum in the Rapid event with Antonio, Mejia, Silvederio, Cesar Mariano and Bernas contributing two points each, while Karl Viktor Ochoa settled for a point.
Negros Kingsmen, on the other hand, cruised to 16-5 supremacy over Olongapo Rainbow Team 7 to remain on top of the Southern standings with Kisela Knights and Camarines Soaring Eagle.
International Master (IM) Joel Pimentel of Bacolod City, FIDE Master (FM) Judge Rosendo Bandal, FM Randy Segarra and FM Rolzon Roullo scored a point each for the Kingsmen in the Blitz event.
Segarra, Bandal, Pimentel, Roullo, Arena Grandmaster (AGM) Kajoy Acedo and Nayk Aguilar Segismar registered two points each to lead the Kingsmen in Rapid event against Camarines.
Action resumes on Wednesday night with the Kisela Knights taking on Laguna Heroes and Antipolo Cobras while the Kingsmen will face Cavite Spartans and Isabela Knight Raiders./PN
