ILOILO KISELA KNIGHTS MAINTAIN PCAP RAMPAGE

Manila — Iloilo Kisela Knights continued its 2022 Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) All-Filipino Conference rampage after sweeping their Wednesday night matches.

The Kisela Knights improved to 25-2 on top the Southern Division standings with an 11.5-9.5 escape over Davao and an 18-3 domination over Camarines.

The Kisela Knights edged Davao in blitz game, 4.5-1.5 behind victories by Karl Victor Ochoa (Board 2), Rogelio Antonio Jr. (Board 4), Fritz Bryan Porras (Board 5) and Rolly Parondo Jr. (Board 6) and a draw by Horizon Villanueva (Board 7).

Iloilo was forced to a 7-7 draw by Davao in the rapid event with triumphs by Cesar Mariano (Board 1), Antonio and Porras and a draw by Cherry Ann Mejia (Board 3).

Against Camarines, Iloilo dominated the blitz game with 6-1 victory courtesy of Ochoa, Mejia, Antonio, Porras, Parondo and John Michael Silvederio (Board 7).

The Kisela Knights showed the same grit against Camarines in rapid event, 12-2, behind two-pointers each from Ochoa, Mejia, Antonio, Porras, Parondo and Silvederio.

“We are just glad that we were able to maintain our winning run,” said Kisela Knights head coach Hubert Canto. “However, it is still a long way to go to reach our goal.”

Negros Kingsmen, meanwhile, dropped to 17-10 in the standings after another split–a 16-5 loss to Camarines and a 14.5-6.5 manhandling of Toledo Trojans.

Negros walloped Toledo in blitz game, 4.5-2.5, with wins by David Elorta (Board 1), Natori Diaz (Board 3), Ellan Asuela (Board 5) and Ted Montoyo (Board 7) and a draw by Mari Turqueza (Board 2).

The Kingsmen also edged Toledo in rapid game, 10-4, on two-pointer each from Elorta, Turqueza, Diaz, Asuela ans Montoyo./PN
